Children's gymnastics coach downloaded 'repellent' indecent images of youngsters

A children's gymnastic coach from Keynsham downloaded child abuse images, a court heard.

Jamie Creese was found to have 66 images of youngsters, as well as an extreme pornographic image.

The 24-year-old, of Queens Road, pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent photographs of a child.

Judge Julian Lambert handed him a three-year community order with 180 hours' unpaid work and a rehabilitation programme.

He told Creese: "It may be you did not sufficiently appreciate what you were doing.

"I believe you now understand.

"You were encouraging their production.

"If people didn't look at them they would not be made in the first place.

"You are treatable and society is better served by ensuring you are treated to get you away from an inclination to view these repellent images."

Creese was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years and told to abide by a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, banning him from unchecked internet use.

Simran Kamal, prosecuting via video link, said police who seized Creese's Samsung mobile phone found it contained child abuse images.

A total of 34 were deemed to be in the most serious Category A level of abuse.

Interrogation of his phone revealed he had used child abuse search terms to download photos.

The court heard there was no distribution of images - which would have meant he was likely to be sent to jail.

Nicholas Clough, defending via video link, said: "The overall picture is of a hard-working, law-abiding man who went off the rails.

"It has already cost him dearly.

"He has lost his job, his friends, his home, his freedom and his self-respect."
