Children riding 'e-scooter' taken to hospital after car crash in Heywood

Two children riding 'an e-scooter' were injured in a car crash in Rochdale this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Pilsworth Road, in Heywood, shortly before 1pm on Tuesday (August 24) afternoon.

Reports of a collision between two pedestrians and a car were made to Greater Manchester Police.

After arriving at the scene, the two children — both aged over 10 — were taken to hospital.

The severity of their injuries is not yet known.

“We were called at 12:53pm to reports of a collision involving a car and two male teens on an e-scooter,” a spokesperson from North West Ambulances told the Manchester Evening News.

“Both patients were treated on scene and taken to hospital.”

A statement from Greater Manchester Police added: “Police were called around 12.55pm today (24 August) to Pilsworth Road, Heywood to a report of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians.

“The pedestrians — two children aged over 10 — were taken to hospital.

“No arrests have been made.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Pilsworth Road was shut between Argyle Street and Bury Street to allow emergency workers to carry out their duties.

In turn, that led to the diversion of the 163 bus service in both directions.

Passengers are being urged to check their route this afternoon to see if any disruption remains in place.
