Children protest in Dublin for 100% Mica redress scheme

Children took to the streets of Dublin yesterday to protest for a 100% Mica redress scheme.

The youngsters from Donegal were gathered outside the Dail from early in the morning.

Many held signs with slogans including "I did nothing wrong" and "let me live, learn and play" written on them.

The children were chanting "come out Micheal Martin".

Inside the Dail, Mary Lou McDonald told the Taoiseach that the children wanted him to come out and "look them in the eye and explain to them why they are living this nightmare".

She said: "It's your job Taoiseach, to ensure that these children get the relief and vindication of their rights that they deserve. That's your job."

However, Martin said he checked with his staff and that no invite to his office had been received ahead of the demonstration.

But lead Mica campaigner Paddy Diver said that invites were sent to both the Taoiseach and other ministers before the protest.

The protest is the latest of demonstrations by Mica campaigners demanding 100% redress.

Earlier this month, thousands of people took part in a protest in Dublin to mount further pressure on the Government to commit to a 100 percent redress scheme.

The Government has faced criticism for only offering 90 percent under the current scheme, leaving property owners with significant bills to repair or rebuild homes.
