Children on ruined Skegness holiday woke up screaming due to ant problem

A large number of ants in a Skegness caravan cut a half-term holiday short, claims a family.

Katrina Clark who has four children and another on the way told LincolnshireLive about her ordeal.

The 37-year-old said her children woke up screaming and refused to sleep after finding ants on them.

The mum from Great Yarmouth claims that she was not offered a refund as the owner had offered to come round and spray the caravan.

The family say they had to throw away food and go out for most of the day because of the ant problem.

The holiday caravan at Sea View Holiday Camp in Skegness was booked from Monday, May 27 until Friday,May 31.

Ms Clark said: “On the Thursday morning the kids woke up screaming as they were all over them and over the unit that’s next to their bed.

“They refused to sleep in the bedroom. The kids kept screaming, especially the three-year-old we stayed out most of the time and just used it for sleeping.

“But it was the final straw on Thursday when they were all over the place.

“We had to leave the caravan early, I was stupid for not leaving straight away but she [owner] didn’t tell us about the ants until we arrived.

“I told her on the Tuesday that we had to throw food away because of it so she offered to come round on the Wednesday.

“The only reason why I said we would see how it goes was because I was worried about the ant stuff she was going to put down, as I thought that the caravan had to be vacated to do this.

“I rent private every year but this has put me off ever renting again.”

Katrina said that she would have expected to be given a refund or be moved if she had booked with a bigger company.

The owner of the caravan has been approached for comment.
