Children missing 3 days found alive in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ Six-year-old Braxton Williams and 5-year-old sister Bri'ya have been found safe, according to Jacksonville officials.

Two missing Westside Jacksonville children have been found safe as the search for them entered its third day, according to Mayor Lenny Curry.

After more than 100 police officers, firefighters and staff from other agencies continued to look for 6-year-old Braxton Williams and 5-year-old sister Bri'ya Tuesday, Curry confirmed news of the discovery of the children in a Tuesday afternoon tweet.

"Overjoyed to hear that Braxton & Bri'ya have been found & are safe," he wrote. "This is a Christmas miracle. I'm thankful for the tireless efforts of first responders and compassionate members of our city. My prayers continue for this family & I'm so grateful for this positive outcome."

Times-Union news partner First Coast News reported seeing police officers and a rescue unit speeding down a road in the mobile home park Tuesday afternoon, then heard police radio reports stating they had "both kids" and were "heading out of the woods."

The two children were last seen shortly after noon Sunday playing in front of their home in a mobile home community in the 10200 block of West Beaver Street.

After searching themselves, their parents called in a missing persons report to police about an hour later, the sheriff's office said.

Police officers and firefighters searched Sunday night, upward of 150 personnel were on the scene by Monday, police said.

As of Tuesday, 430 homes had been searched in the area, helicopters, dogs and others looking over about 130 acres, including 20 bodies of water, police said.
