Children have a swinging time at outdoor art event

Primary school pupils had a swinging time at a fun outdoor arts event.

The Swings is a live outdoor performance by All or Nothing aerial dance theatre.

Lochwinnoch Arts Festival brought the event to the village which was enjoyed by pupils at the local primary school and early learning class.

They all had the chance to enjoy the 20-minute performance by the artists and each pupil had a chance to have a shot on the massive swings themselves.

Morag Thow from Lochwinnoch Arts Festival committee said it was a brilliant two days.

She said: “It was absolutely fantastic and we were blessed with good weather. The children really loved it which is the main thing considering what a rubbish year they’ve had.

“The committee was approached by outdoor arts companies and we said we’d like to put this one on. They’d actually been due to finish their Scottish tour but we asked if they would come to Lochwinnoch to perform for the children when they were back at school.”

The set included a giant swing set which is five metres high and two swings. Two aerial artists use the swings as their apparatus to fly high alongside a sound installation which celebrates the childish joy of being on a swing.

Lochwinnoch Primary headteacher Julie Bell said: “The children – and staff – spent a wonderful two days being entertained by the ariel artists at The Swings events.

“We all loved experiencing the joy of swinging when we all had the opportunity to try the swings for ourselves.

“This was a wonderful way to start the new term, and we really are grateful to Morag Thow and the Arts Committee for bringing the company of All or Nothing to Lochwinnoch and allowing the school pupils and ELCC children to benefit from this.

“It was lovely to begin the term in such a positive way which is so important for our children at this time.”
