A search was launched after two children disappeared on Formby beach.

The Southport Offshore Rescue Trust was called by the coastguard to carry out the search after the children went missing in the sand dunes. The team's quad bikes were scrambled to the scene and quickly found the children, who were described as being "disorientated and dehydrated."

A spokesperson from the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust said: "The pagers were again activated by the Coastguard Operations Centre in Holyhead, who requested the quad bikes to conduct a search for two youths missing in the dunes on Formby Beach.

Our quads arrived on scene and quickly located the casualties who were disorientated and dehydrated. After ensuring they were well, the quads took them off the beach to the waiting Southport Mobile Coastguard Rescue Team at Victoria Road."
