A councillor has said that children could have been caught in the crossfire of a "terrifying" shooting in Salford this afternoon.
Details of the incident, in Liverpool Street, have not been confirmed by police - however it is understood that it was a targeted attack.
The M.E.N. understands that the shooting started near a parade of shops with a person or persons on a motorbike opening fire on a vehicle.
The shooting continued as the motorbike pursued the car towards Clarendon Recreation Centre. The car was then abandoned close to the centre.
One car at the scene can be seen to have bullet holes and a smashed rear windscreen.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Councillor John Warmisham said: "I'm extremely concerned that this shooting took place as children who have come out of Lark Hill Primary School were visiting shops nearby.

"In addition there were members of the public and people using Clarendon Recreation Centre.

"It is terrifying to think that they could have been caught in the crossfire."

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, added: “I heard the bangs down the street.

"It looked like it was cars and some motorbikes involved, they drove really fast down here.
"We came outside as soon as we heard the bangs. I saw a black bike whizz past my house."
