Children asked to self isolate after covid case at primary school

Parents of pupils at a Sefton primary school have been told their child must self-isolate for 14 days after a confirmed positive case.

A letter was sent out from the head teacher of Ursuline Catholic Primary School in Blundellsands, near Crosby, advising parents and carers of affected children what to do.

It is not known whether the positive case is a teacher, other member of staff, or a pupil at the school.

The letter states: "We have been made aware that we have a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (Covid-19).

"We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected person.

"In line with the national guidance your child must stay at home and self-isolate until Monday 26th October inclusive (14 days after contact).

"If your child is well at the end of the 14 days period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities."

More than 100 Merseyside schools have announced positive coronavirus cases since pupils returned last month.

It means there are now thousands of children in self-isolation, across the region.

The Liverpool City Region has been placed into the most severe category by the government, effective from today, after a soaring number of coronavirus transmissions in recent weeks.
