Children among 8 wounded in Old East Dallas shooting, police say

Eight people — including two children — were shot at a strip mall in Old East Dallas early Sunday, authorities say.

The victims included a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old, both of whom were hit in the leg. One person, whose condition was not released, underwent surgery, but police said no one else’s wounds appeared to be life-threatening.

Investigators said it appeared two groups had been having parties about 12:30 a.m. along East. R.L. Thornton Freeway, near Caldwell and Terry streets, when members of the groups got into an argument. The argument escalated into a fight and an exchange of gunfire.

A Dallas police spokesman said Sunday that no “official arrest” had been made.
