Children ages 2 and 10 among victims of triple homicide, North Carolina police say

RALEIGH, N.C. _ Three people, including a 2-year-old, were killed in act of domestic violence on New Year's Day, North Carolina officials say.

Two children and an adult were found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a Greensboro home on Wednesday, according to the city's police department.

A relative had called officers to the residential area to check someone's well-being, police spokesperson Ronald Glenn told McClatchy News via email.

That's when officers saw an "aggravated assault" in progress, according to a news release.

Investigators later opened a homicide investigation, the release said.

The deceased victims were identified as Greensboro residents Jerry Griffin, 61, Mkenzie Denise McKinney, 10, and Serenity Taliem Rose, 2, according to officers.

Police have made an arrest in the case.

Britany Christina McKinney, 29, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths, police say. She was being held Thursday with no bond allowed, according to Guilford County jail records.

"The suspect did have a relationship with all three victims," Glenn wrote. "We are not releasing the nature of their relationships at this time, but this would be considered a domestic related homicide."
