Childish Gambino cancels Australian tour after foot injury

Childish Gambino has cancelled his Australian tour, including headlining Canberra's Spilt Milk festival next month.

The rapper, whose real name is Donald Glover, was also set to perform in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney in the lead-up to the November 17 festival.

Over the weekend he cancelled a performance at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans after doctors told him to continue recovery from a reportedly broken foot he sustained during a show in Dallas, Texas in September.

On Sunday, Australian fans' worst fears were realised as news came through that shows in Europe and Australia as part of the This Is America tour were cancelled.

"Not ready to put on 100% shows. Apologies to the fans. I will be back soon," he posted to Instagram.

Organisers of Spilt Milk said they were "devastated" to lose their headliner.

"We are totally gutted that Gambino can't make it and we know that many of you are as disappointed as we are," they said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with Donald and we wish him a speedy recovery.

"An artist the calibre of Childish Gambino can never truly be replaced so close to event day, but we will be announcing an exciting line-up addition shortly."

Spilt Milk is offering refunds from October 30 until 3:00pm AEST on November 1.

Entertainment company Live Nation said it was in the process of trying to reschedule the Australian dates.
