'Childish' Alfredo Morelos claim made after Rangers striker's slap on Celtic skipper Scott Brown

Alfredo Morelos was 'petulant and childish' and should have been sent off for his altercation with Scott Brown against Celtic, according to Noel Whelan.

The Rangers striker made contact with the Hoops skipper on the back of his head during his side's 2-0 win at Parkhead, but wasn't punished for the incident.

The Colombian has been plagued with discliplinary issues since arriving at Ibrox, but he has been able to cut it out of his game to an extent since last seson.

But former Aberdeen man Whelan believes Morelos' petulance is still there "deep down" and Rangers should have been down to ten men after the incident with Brown.

He told Football Insider: "Steven Gerrard appeared to have cut out that petulance from his game but it is still down there, deep down.

"We saw it come out again and that moment could have been pivotal in the game. It could have been a game-changer. You cannot do that.

“You cannot raise your hand to anybody. It is a deliberate, aggressive movement towards another player. It is a red card by anyone’s books.

"It is horrible to see that creep back into his game. For me, it is unacceptable. It is petulant and childish. He should be worrying about getting on the scoresheet.”
