A 3-year-old boy shot himself in the right foot after a weapon was left unattended in an apartment in Roseland on the Far South Side, officials said.

The boy was taken about 2:45 p.m. to Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound, Chicago Fire officials said. The child’s condition was not immediately known.

Officers met with a 23-year-old woman at the hospital who said the boy had been shot in the foot, Chicago police said.
