A child with a toy gun sparked a large armed police response in Wallasey.
Officers received reports of a possibly firearms discharge on Mill Lane, just after 2pm, on Sunday.
It was reported that "males in a grey Audi" had been seen shooting out of a vehicle window.
However, when armed police arrived, officers found a father and his 12-year-old son in an Audi A3, in possession of a toy gun.
A second child is also understood to have been in the vehicle.
It is believed the child had been given the 'BB' toy gun as a present for his birthday.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "The whole incident was dealt with quickly and the father of the child was given advice. No offences were committed."
