Child, 2, dies after being found unresponsive in house - as police launch probe

Police have launched an investigation after a two-year-old was found dead in a house.

The two-year-old died at an address in Gateshead, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to a house in Gateshead at around 8.40am yesterday morning following reports of an unresponsive child at the address.

Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northumbria Police have said an investigation has been launched into the toddler's death.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "At around 8.40am on Saturday, September 25, police received a report from the ambulance service of an unresponsive two-year old at an address in Gateshead.

"Officers attended the scene but tragically the child was pronounced dead.

"An investigation into the death is being carried out at this time."

It comes as a 10-day-old baby boy has died in hospital after being found unresponsive at a house.

Police were called by paramedics to a property in Lockside Road, Preston, Lancashire, at around 2.05 am on Tuesday, September 21.

Emergency crews rushed the tot to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said the death is being treated as "unexplained" and an investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called by the ambulance service at around 2.05am on Tuesday, September 21 to reports a ten-day-old boy had been found unresponsive at an address on Lockside Road, Preston.

"He was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and our enquiries are ongoing."
