Child taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash on Westgate Road in Newcastle

A child has been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision on Westgate Road on Monday evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Grainger Park Road, just after 5pm to reports of a crash between a Volkswagon and a BMW.

Northumbria Police say those involved suffered minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At about 5.10pm, May 27, police received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Westgate Road and Grainger Park Road, Newcastle .

"Emergency services attended after reports that a Volkswagon Passat and a BMW Sport had collided.

"The road was partially blocked and a traffic light was reported as damaged.

"Those involved suffered minor injuries."

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said that one patient was treated at the scene and one child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
