Child, 8, taken to hospital after being hit by car in East Kilbride

An eight-year-old child was taken to hospital this morning after being hit by a car on a busy road in East Kilbride.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Murrayhill and Westwood Road shortly after 9am.

East Kilbride councillor calls for crackdown on road accident hot spots  

Police and two ambulances attended and the child was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Hairmyres.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to an incident involving an eight-year-old child shortly after 9am.

"The child was struck by a car but didn't sustain serious injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance to be checked by doctors."
