Child taken to hospital after being hit by car in Newcastle

A child has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision in the Willow Avenue area of Fenham at just before 5pm on Monday.

The road was closed as paramedics worked to treat the child who was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The air ambulance was also called out but wasn't needed.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance said: "We got a call at 4.43pm about a child who had been in a collision with a car.

"We dispatched two paramedic ambulances and the air ambulance. The doctor from the air ambulance came with us in our vehicle (a road ambulance) and we took the patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police confirmed that officers were in attendance at the incident and that the road was closed.

He said: "We were called by the ambulance at 4.50pm to reports that there had been a road traffic collision in that area.

"We attended to assist the ambulance service."

No information has been given on the child's injuries.
