Child, 3, transported to Adelaide with life-threatening burns after Port Augusta house fire

A three-year-old child has suffered life-threatening burns in a house fire that has also injured two other children and several adults at Port Augusta in South Australia's north.

The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS), police and paramedics were called to the scene on Carrig Avenue about 8:40am and found the property engulfed in flames.

Police said a child was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, and said another had sustained minor burns.

SA Ambulance said a 28-year-old, believed to be a neighbour, entered the home and had also been taken to Port Augusta Hospital for smoke inhalation, along with the two children.

This afternoon, SA Health said a five-year-old and a six-year-old who were hurt in the fire were in a stable condition at the Port Augusta Hospital.

Another adult was treated at the scene.

The child with serious burns has been transferred to Adelaide on an emergency flight.

SA Police said the road would remain closed for several hours and have asked the public to avoid the area.

Fire cause investigators from Adelaide will examine the scene.
