Child suffers 'facial injuries' as four taken to hospital after three car pile up

Two children were taken to hospital last night after a crash involving three cars.

One of the children was said to have suffered "facial injuries" during the crash.

Emergency services were called to Burtonhead Road, St Helens at 8.25 pm, after reports of a crash involving an Audi A3, a Suzuki Grand Vitara and a Mercedes A180.

Four people, including the children, were said to have been taken to hospital.

The two children were taken to Whiston Hospital, along with a woman who said to have suffered “injuries to her chest”.

A man in his early 30s was described as the most seriously hurt and was taken to Aintree Hospita l with a possible injury to his back.

A number of other people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

No further updates have been given on the injuries of those taken to hospital.

All vehicles involved in the crash were recovered and Burtonhead Road was reopened at 11.45 pm.
