Child sex ring claims as 13 appear in court on multiple charges of historical abuse

Thirteen people have appeared in court charged with dozens of historical sex offences against young children over an eight year period.

They are accused of carrying out a catalogue of abuse against four youngsters between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2016.

The charges include causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual touching as well as a string of other sexual offences which are alleged to have taken place in Walsall, West Midlands.

Today, June 22, James Evans, David Baker, Mark Smith, Gemma Watts, Luke Baker, Tracy Baker, Kirsty Webb, Stephen Webb, Lee Webb, Pamela Howells, Dean Webb and Ann Clare appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court.

The defendants, all from Walsall, indicated they would plead not guilty and they were granted bail to appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court on July 13.

James Evans, 36, is charged with 26 offences. They include intentional penetration of a child and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

David Baker, 39, is charged with 15 offences. They include sexual touching and intentional sexual penetration of both male and female victims.

Mark Smith, 42, faces 12 offences including sexually touching of boys and girls and inciting or encouraging a youngster to perform sex acts.

Gemma Watts, 39 is charged with two counts of conspiring to incite children under the age of 16 to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Luke Baker, 20, is charged with four offences between June and December 2016 including intentionally causing or inciting a boy under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Tracy Baker, 38, and Kirsty Webb, 33, faces ten and 11 counts each of offences which include sexual touching and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Kirsty Webb is also accused of conspiring with others to arrange or facilitate the doing of acts that they themselves or others intended to involve sexual activity with a child.

Stephen Webb, 63, and Lee Webb, 38, are charged with intentional penetration of a youngster and causing or inciting victims to engage in sexual activity.

Pamela Howells, 56, faces six charges including conspiring with others to cause or incite children to engage in penetration sexual activity without reasonably believing that the children were over the age of 16.

She is also accused of conspiring together with others for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification causing or inciting the children to watch themselves or others engage in sexual activity.

Dean Webb, 31, is charged with 14 offences of a similar nature but also sexual touching and intentional penetration of an underage boy and girl.

Ann Clare, 40, is accused of six offences which include conspiring with others to cause or incite the said children to engage in penetration sexual activity.

A further 13 defendants will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court tomorrow to face similar charges.
