Child seriously injured by falling tree at Gosforth primary school

A young child has been seriously injured by a falling tree while at school in Gosforth.

Paramedics were called to Gosforth Park First School on Friday afternoon following the incident and the child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The child's age is not known.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were sent to the scene shortly after 1pm but the child was taken to hospital by road.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.03pm today to reports of a child seriously injured by a falling tree at Gosforth Park First School.

"We sent seven resources to the scene, including specialist paramedics, an ambulance, rapid response paramedic, hazardous area response team and an officer and we also requested the support of Great North Air Ambulance.

"With support from the GNAAS doctor, we transported the child by road to the RVI in Newcastle.

"Our thoughts are with the child and their family and friends at this time.”
