Child sees man jump fence to use Edinburgh school playground as a toilet

A local Edinburgh primary school have appealed to the police and city council after a man was reported to have jumped the fence and used the children's playground as a toilet.

James Gillespie's primary school have revealed that their grounds have been used as a toilet on multiple occasions during lockdown as public toilets remain closed due to the pandemic.

One local mum contacted the school on social media to report that her child had seen a man jump the fence to relieve himself on June 1 , as lockdown rules begin to relax in Edinburgh.

The school have also shared their disgust at finding bottles filled with urine and other un-bottled human waste in the school grounds. Despite lockdown, the school is still being used by staff looking after key worker children, creating a potentially dangerous hygiene issue.

Today the school took to social media to contact the police and city council for help and advice on how to try and manage the situation.

Their message read:

"Hi @EdinPolSE or @edinhelp is there anything we can do about this? We are finding bottles of urine in the school grounds and also evidence of unbottled human waste too Our grounds are used by key worker children daily & this is very unhygienic. I’ve contacted neighbouring bar."

The council have since responded to the primary school online to confirm that they now are aware of the issue and will contact the school as soon as possible.

The City of Edinburgh Council have been contacted for comment.
