Child's Play trailer: Chucky gets a major upgrade as Mark Hamill voices killer doll

Horror movies are aplenty at the moment, but the Chucky remake, Child's Play, is one horror remake that we're glad to see.

The new trailer unveils Mark Hamill 's take on the iconic killer doll alongside Karen (Audrey Plaza), a mum who gives son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a toy for his birthday, unaware of its history.

The film also stars Brian Tyree Henry.

It looks like Chucky has changed and is kitted out for the modern world too judging by the new trailer.

There's a new Buddi app that can control smart devices ranging from cars to drones that Chucky now has access to - ie he now has a whole new toy box of killing instruments at his disposal.

Hamill lends his voice to the menacing doll with the trailer ending on his creepy: "goodnight Andy..."

Producer Seth Grahame-Smith has said the team didn't want to do something "that felt too familiar" to Chucky fans and the original film.

"We knew we wanted to reintroduce a new design because we're also reintroducing a new concept for what Chucky really is," he told Entertainment Weekly.

“We knew we wanted to reintroduce a new design because we’re also reintroducing a new concept for what Chucky really is. That led us to, okay, if a company like Apple or Google or Amazon was going to design and market a child companion toy, what would that toy look like? What would its features be? And that drove the design more than anything.”

Child's Play is written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Lars Klevberg.

Child's Play is out in cinemas on June 21.
