Child's grave targeted in vile attack in Perth

Sick thieves who robbed flowers and decorations from a child’s grave in Perth, have been branded “despicable” by a local councillor.

Lib Dem councillor Willie Wilson did not mince his words when commenting on the incident at Wellshill Cemetery in Perth.

This week, between 4pm on Tuesday, August 6 and 11am on Wednesday, August 7, several silver aluminium grave vase inserts along with large bunches of flowers and silver accessory bows, were stolen from a child’s graveside in Wellshill Cemetery in Perth.

The Victorian cemetery beside Feus Road contains Polish War Graves, the graves of seven previous lord provosts and the headstone of Perth poet William Soutar.

Last month we reported that information boards relating to the Polish airmen buried after World War II were gouged at with a sharp object and defaced.

This latest incident, particularly upsetting as the grave was that of a child, incensed Perth City South councillor Willie Wilson.

He said yesterday: “Such hooligan acts as desecrating graves are despicable.

“Those responsible should hang their heads with shame at carrying out such a callous act.”

He went on to urge all members of the public who see incidents of vandalism to report it immediately to the police.
