Child rushed to hospital after hit and run horror in Ayr

A child was rushed to hospital with a serious injury after a shocking hit and run in Ayr.

The seven-year-old girl was knocked down by a car on Hay Hill at around 6.50pm on Sunday evening.

The youngster was taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle sped away after the tot was hit and police say enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Sunday, August 9, police received a report that a seven-year-old girl had been injured by a car on Hay Hill in Ayr.

“The child was taken to Ayr Hospital with a serious injury. Enquiries are ongoing.”

On Tuesday afternoon Police added that a 22-year-old man had been now been traced in relation to the crash.

A spokesperson said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a 22-year-old man has been traced and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to a road traffic crash which happened on Hay Hill in Ayr on Sunday, 9 August, 2020, in which a seven-year-old girl was struck and seriously injured by a motor car."
