Firefighters rescued three people and a kitten from a house fire in Birkenhead in the early hours of today (Thursday 1st October).
Crews were alerted to a fire in a property on Argyle Street South, Birkenhead, at 1.51am and were on scene at 1.56am. Three fire engines attended.
When they arrived crews found the ground floor of the property to be well ablaze.
Firefighters quickly used an extension ladder to rescue two adults and a child from the first floor window of the property. Crews also rescued a kitten.
Crews then forced entry to the property and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went in to prevent the fire spreading any further. It was successfully extinguished using a high pressure hose reel.
All three people were assessed at the scene by North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further treatment. Merseyside Police were also in attendance.
It is believed the fire started accidentally and was caused by an electrical fault.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: "The family had been alerted to the fire by their smoke alarm.
"You should have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of the home. People should consider installing additional smoke alarms in rooms with electrical appliances and sleeping areas. Test your smoke alarms every week."
Crews left the scene at 3.26am.
