Child rescued after being stuck in a tree for almost an hour

A child who was stuck in a tree for almost an hour was rescued by firefighters after getting their leg wedged between two branches.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident in West Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, earlier this week.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the child stuck in the tree after climbing it before getting trapped.

Firefighters helped rescue the child by using a saw and tools to cut off the branches, before the child was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

A passerby called the emergency services and Ashfield District Council's community protection officers also attended the incident.

A spokesperson for Ashfield Fire Station said: "Earlier in the week firefighters from Ashfield Fire Station responded to an incident on West Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

"On arrival we could see a child stuck in a tree and they had been there for nearly an hour.

"They had climbed the tree, fallen and had got their leg stuck between two large branches of the tree.

"We used a reciprocating saw and small tools to cut the branches and free the child before carrying out a medical assessment, they were then taken to hospital by EMAS.

"A passer-by called the emergency services. Ashfield District Council community protection officers were also in attendance."
