Child remains in hospital after being hit by car on residential street

A young child remains in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

On Saturday, October 23 at around 5.15pm, emergency services were called to Ritson Street in Toxteth to reports of a crash involving a Nissan Micra and a child pedestrian.

The little girl was treated by paramedics at the scene and was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries to her head and leg.

Police closed the top of Ritson Street and a cordon was in place on the road towards Thames Streets when the ECHO went to the scene.

A matrix police van was and detectives could also be seen investigating around the Nissan Micra.

Cones were also in place on the road.

The 40-year-old female driver of the Micra stopped at the scene and was previously arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She taken to a police station where she was interviewed.

In an update today, a spokesperson for Merseyside police said the child is in a 'serious but stable condition'.

The woman who was arrested has now been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "The child hit by a car is in a serious but stable condition.

"The woman arrested has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries."
