Child pinned under sports car after it plows into Whittier home

May 05--A 4-year-old boy escaped with minor injuries after being pinned under a sports car that plowed into his family home early Thursday in Whittier, officials said.

Officers believe the red 2003 Nissan 350Z was speeding on Marquardt Avenue, just south of Imperial Highway. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to turn right at the intersection of Imperial Highway, then veered off the road and struck a wall, according to officers with the California Highway Patrol.

The boy was sleeping in bed at about 12:15 a.m. when the sports car slammed into the family home in the 12400 block of Ramsey Drive, officers said.

The sports car came to rest on top of the boy, officers said.

Los Angeles County firefighters were able to pull the boy out from under the car. He complained of pain and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

An 18-year-old was also in the bedroom during the crash. He suffered cuts on his arm from the debris.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan fled before officers arrived.

"Someone is watching my son and grandson," the 4-year-old's grandmother, Irene Mazon, told KTLA.

Anyone with details about the crash is urged to call the CHP Santa Fe Springs office at (562) 868-0503.
