Child 'miraculously' escapes unharmed after car flips on its side in M62 crash

A child 'miraculously' escaped injury after a car flipped on its side during a horror crash on the M62.

Motorway police said the child was fortunately unharmed in the collision - despite not being in a child seat.

The driver of the black BMW X3 is understood to have lost control of the vehicle in wet conditions as heavy rain battered the region.

They have since been reported to court, after investigations showed both rear tyres were below the legal limit.

A section of the motorway had to be closed in the eastbound direction following the crash, which happened this morning (Saturday).

Police were called to Junction 5 (A5080) on Roby Road in Huyton, Liverpool at 11am to reports of an accident.

A photo from the scene shows emergency workers standing next to a car on its side on the road.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Police were called at 11am. One vehicle had slipped on its side. No injuries were reported.

"The M62 is closed as officers recover the vehicle."

An update was posted by North West Motorway Police this afternoon.

"M62 EB J5 remains shut after a one vehicle RTC.

"The driver of this BMW X3 lost control in the wet conditions. The BMW has leaked oil and diesel onto the road surface which may need resurfacing.

"Miraculously a child was unharmed, despite not being in a child seat.

"An examination showed both rear tyres were below the legal limit. Driver has been reported to court."
