Child leaves his puppy chained to park bench with heartbreaking note

Sometimes you have to make a difficult decision to do right by somebody else, no matter how painful it might be for you.

One child has heartbreaking made the decision to rehome his family dog because it was being abused by his parents.

Leaving the dog chained to a park bench, the young child wrote a note explaining why his dog, then named Max, would be better off with somebody else.

The note reads: "Hello, please, adopt me, I’m Max. Please I’m asking you to adopt this little dog and take good care of him.

The child penned a heartbreaking letter (Mascotas Coyoacán)
Boston in April 2022 (Mascotas Coyoacán)

"It hurts a lot to leave my dog here, but I took this decision because my family is always mistreating/abusing him and it made me so sad to see him suffering in those bad conditions.

"So, if you read this and you feel your heart please adopt him and take good care of him. If not, please leave this note where it was so others can read it and adopt him. Thanks."

Found on a bench in Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico, Max was picked up by animal rescue Mascotas Coyoacán, who took him to their shelter for a check up.

A spokeswoman said: "He will no longer be called Max, as his name appears in the note, because he will have a new life without the reminder of his past life, of abuse and abandonment.

Boston, then Max, with a Mascotas Coyoacán worker (Mascotas Coyoacán)

"Now it will be Boston, which is the name we had chosen for the pit they abandoned in an apartment and eventually returned with their owner. From now on, there will be only love in Boston's life."

Despite receiving a lot of attention after his abandonment, Boston has now spent two and a half years in rescue as the centre have been unable to secure him a suitable home.

He needs an understanding owner who can show him the world doesn't need to be a scary place, as he can sometimes struggle with meeting strangers and being taken to unfamiliar places.

The spokeswoman told The Mirror : "We rescued him in November 2020, he was seven-months-old.

"From that point he developed from a scared to death puppy to a strong, loving, confident and active young dog. He loves to play with other dogs."

She added: "To all those interested in adopting Boston, we greatly appreciate the opportunity you want to give to Boston and we are sure that many of you would give him a very happy home.

"Unfortunately there is only one Boston and we are going to choose who has the most suitable home according to the characteristics of the beloved puppy.

"To those who are not chosen, please know that this does not imply that they are not good adopters, but that we can only choose one. We invite you to see to our other adoptable dogs to see if any of them steal your hearts.

"They all have very hard stories behind and deserve the same love and the same opportunities as Boston. And please, even if you don't get elected to Boston, do not give up giving a puppy the opportunity who needs it.

"There are thousands on the street and in shelters waiting for an opportunity like the one you can give you. Thank you for your big heart."
