Child killer Chris Watts an 'outcast' in protective custody so he's 'not attacked'

A man who killed his pregnant wife and their two daughters is being shunned in prison and has been placed in protective custody to stop him being attacked.

Chris Watts marks his 36th birthday today behind bars at the maximum security Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupan, Wisconsin, US, after slaughtering his family.

A source who regularly speaks to Watts told People magazine in the US that he can go days without speaking to a soul as inmates and guards try to avoid him.

The source said: “No one wants anything to do with him. He’s on the lowest social tier of the entire prison.

“He’ in protective custody because if he’s around other inmates, he’d be in real danger.

“He’s an outcast, even among criminals.”

Watts killed his wife Shanann at their hime in Colorado, back in August 2018, before driving her body to a site at the oil company where he worked and burying her.

He then smothered his daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste 3. He is serving five consecutive life sentences for all three murders.

Watts committed the crimes after meeting Nichol Kessinger, 32, with whom he wanted to begin a new life.

Ms Kessinger is thought to have changed her name in the wake of Watts' convictions, and has not been heard from since.

The source added that Watts, who has a few family photos in his cell and a bible, spends his days writing to pen pals.

There are many women who began writing to him after he went to prison. He spends hours reading and they replying to their letters.

The source added: “He’s a young guy, only 36, so he could live like this for the next 50 years.

“It’s probably a fate worse than death.”

The Watts family's case was the subject of a Netflix series released last year 'American Murder: The Family Next Door'.
