A child was killed and another seriously injured when a tree fell during the high winds from Storm Ellen on Friday.

Kent Police said they were called at 12.17pm on Friday following a report that two children had been injured by a falling tree near Parsonage Lane, Bobbing, in Kent.

The force said that officers attended alongside ambulance crews, the air ambulance and firefighters.

One child was declared dead at the scene and the other was airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries, it added.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service had issued a warning on Twitter for people to take care on Friday due to the high winds.
