Child hit by car near school in Kilwinning as police lock down street

A child has been hit by a car near a school in North Ayrshire.

Police rushed to the scene on Dalry Road after the incident near Kilwinning Academy, Kilwinning , around 3.30pm on Wednesday October 30.

The youngster is currently being treated at the scene, however is unclear at this time how serious their injuries are.

The road has been closed in both directions, with motorists being advised to use an alternative route at this time and allow extra time for their journey by Traffic Scotland.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 3.30pm to Dalry Road, near to Kilwinning Academy, for a crash involving a car and a child.

"The child is currently being treated at the scene and there are no further details on injuries at this stage.

"The road is closed in both directions."
