Child, five, dies after testing positive for coronavirus as UK total reaches 4,313

A five-year-old child is among those who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus.

NHS England confirmed that the youngster was one of the deaths announced on Saturday as the total number in the UK rose to 4,313.

In England, the total number of deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19 rose by 637 to 3,939.

In a statement, NHS England added: "The oldest patient was 104, and 40 had no known underlying conditions, aged between 48 and 93.

"Their families have been informed."

Here is the breakdown of deaths in England by NHS region:

  • North East and Yorkshire - 73
  • Midlands - 212
  • London - 127
  • North West - 97
  • East of England - 70
  • South East - 41
  • South West - 17

The Department of Health revealed that as of 9am on Saturday a total of 183,190 people have been tested with 41,903 testing positive.

Public Health England confirmed that 10,984 tests were carried out in England on Friday

Testing capacity for inpatient care currently stands at 12,799 tests per day.
