Youth falls through ice at Kelpies after dog is pulled from nearby canal

A youth has fallen through the ice at a canal at Helix Park in Falkirk.

A second rescue operation was launched on Friday afternoon after previously responding to a call about a dog in distress near The Kelpies.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance at the beauty spot after the alarm was raised at 2.57pm.

Appliances from Falkirk were on the scene while specialist water rescue teams attended from Edinburgh.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.57pm on Friday, January 8 to reports that a youth had fallen into water at The Helix, Falkirk.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue teams to the scene.

"The youth was no longer at the scene upon our arrival.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe."

We previously told how a frantic dog owner called on first responders after their dog got into difficulty less than two hours earlier.

The pooch was thankfully recovered from the water before rescue crews arrived and has been taken to the vet for a check up.

More to follow.
