A young child who fell from a moving car onto a busy road has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The girl was believed to be travelling in a black Kia when she fell from a sliding door at the back of the vehicle onto the outside lane of the A180 dual carriageway in Grimsby.
The child is four years old and from the Grimsby area, a Humberside Police sergeant told Grimsby Live.
One passing motorist earlier said he had seen a young child being cradled by an adult in the middle of the carriageway.
Another claimed he had heard the screams of a child and that several people had rushed to assist in the incident at around 4pm.

Sergeant John Rickells said the girl was initially taken to Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital but was later transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital by ambulance with police escort due to the severity of her injuries.
A section of the A180 in Grimsby has been closed tonight as officers remain at the scene.
The passing motorist said: "It looked horrifying. But she had someone holding her. Those cries were heartbreaking to hear.

"There were a lot of people who rushed over to help. The ambulance service were here very quickly and the police shut the road off."
Another driver said: "We saw the car coming the other way. The door was open. I hope she is okay."
Sgt Rickells praised the members of the public who stopped to provide first aid.
"It was good that people stopped and helped," he said. "It shows the good side of people and it all helps.

"We are also asking people who have not already spoken to us to contact us with what they saw and especially if they have dashcam footage."
He said colleagues are continuing with their investigation and examination of the scene.
"We are still looking for CCTV so we can establish the circumstances," the sergeant said.
After the girl was taken to hospital, Humberside Police officers reportedly carried out a number of safety checks on the Kia, videoing locks and the movement of the sliding door.

Officers interviewed a man believed to be the driver and a number of items were taken from the vehicle by police.
Humberside Police earlier said in a tweet: "Emergency Services are currently dealing with an incident on the A180 at the Birchin Way roundabout and closures are currently in place.
"Please avoid the area were possible."
The are major tailbacks on the A180, with around seven police cars on the scene as well as an ambulance.
Officers have closed the road in the westbound direction with diversions set up at the Westgate roundabout.
Traffic is continuing to flow eastbound.
