Child dies after lorry crashes into grandmother pushing pram on busy street

A child has died after a lorry crashed into a grandmother pushing a pram.

The tragedy took place on Main Street in the Co Down village of Moira in Northern Ireland today.

The Mirror reports that one person has been taken to hospital following the collision, where they remain in a critical condition.

Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Sorcha Eastwood expressed her condolences to child's family following the incident saying: "I am absolutely devastated for the family that have lost a special little child in an absolutely awful incident in Moira this afternoon. My heart is just broken for them and I know we will all hold the family in prayer over the next while, God bless them all. Just devastating."

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised that Main Street in Moira is closed due to a serious road traffic collision. The off-slip to Moira from the M1 is also closed. The advice would be to seek an alternative route for your journey. An update will follow in due course."
