Up to 650,000 families will receive an extra €100 tomorrow in Child Benefit payments to help with the rising cost of living.
The additional support means that €240 per child will be paid this month in respect of over 1.2 million children.
The increased Child Benefit payments are part of a package of measures secured by Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys in February and are in addition to the €2.2 billion of supports provided in last October’s Budget.

Child Benefit is the monthly payment of €140 for each child but this month the extra €100 will take it to €240.
The payment is made to families with children in respect of all qualified children up to the age of 16 years.
Minister Humphreys said: “I’m pleased to announce that some 650,000 families will receive an extra €100 per child in their Child Benefit payments this week to support them with the cost of living.
“Child Benefit is an extremely important income support that reaches hundreds of thousands of hardworking families.
“I’m deeply conscious of the difficulties families are facing right now in meeting their bills.”
She continued: “And so, I’m pleased to confirm that I have co-signed the regulations along with Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe, which will put this €100 increase into effect.
“This extra child benefit payment will be received in people’s bank accounts from tomorrow.
“It follows the €200 Cost of Living Payment in April, which supported 1.3 million pensioners, carers, people with disabilities and working families.”
She went onto say there will be other allowances to help families.
She added; “Parents who receive the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance will also receive an additional €100 for each child this summer.
“This package of measures, in addition to the €2.2 billion of supports secured as part of Budget 2023, underlines our continued commitment to address the increased cost of living.”
