A child at nursery in South Ayrshire has tested positive for coronavirus.
Test and trace teams have been in contact with the early years centre after the case was confirmed by NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
The child has very mild symptoms and is recovering at home.
However the health board say they attended the establishment for a period of time and that there is a risk they could have infected others.
A risk assessment has been undertaken, with any other children and staff that came in contact with the individual are being contacted by the Test and Protect team.
They have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.
Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health for NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “We appreciate this is a very worrying time.
“However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect children and staff.
“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.
“We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell.
“Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.”
It comes after parents and guardians at Balbardie Primary School in Bathgate were told on Monday, August 24, that a pupil there had "recently" tested positive for COVID-19.
But the school is to remain open with West Lothian council chiefs saying they will 'continue to monitor' the situation.
NHS Lothian's Health Protection Team are understood to have traced 'a small number of close contact with the pupil' who have been advised to self-isolate.
