Child arrested over neck stabbing of cleaner who suffered 'huge blood loss' on Dublin walkway

One young person has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of an office worker who was slashed in the neck and suffered huge blood loss in a gory attack.

Urantsetseg Tserendorj was walking home from work on Wednesday night when she was attacked near Custom House Quay in Dublin city centre.

Store Street officers investigating the serious assault on the pedestrian walkway between George's Dock and Custom House Quay, IFSC, have arrested a juvenile who is currently being quizzed over the attack.

The 48-year-old is said to be lucky to be alive after being targeted on her walk home from work in a random attack on Wednesday night.

A man on a bicycle is believed to have approached the woman and demanded cash, before fleeing towards the Quays empty handed.

The victim is believed to be an Asian woman employed as an office cleaner.

Despite huge blood loss, she was able to call emergency services from her mobile.

Gardai have requested CCTV footage from nearby businesses as part of their investigation.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene and the victim was taken to Dublin’s Mater Hospital for life-saving surgery.

Speaking about the arrest, a spokesman said: "Gardaí in Store Street investigating the serious assault that occurred on the pedestrian walkway, between George's Dock and Custom House Quay, IFSC, Dublin 1 on Wednesday night 20th January have made an arrest."

"A juvenile has been arrested and is currently detained at Store Street Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."
