Carlow dog attack: Child airlifted to hospital with serious injuries

A young boy is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries after an attack by a family pet in Co Carlow.

The child, understood to be five years of age, was attacked by a dog in Green Lane in Carlow town at around 7.30pm on Monday.

He was airlifted to Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The dog, which is believed to be a pitbull, has since been destroyed.

Gardai say their inquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident where a male youth was injured by a dog in Green Lane, Co Carlow at approximately 7:30 pm on Monday 26th July 2021.

"The male youth was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

"The dog has now been destroyed.

"Enquiries ongoing."
