An American man wanted on multiple sex abuse charges in the United States is believed to be still living in Thailand, according to Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) chief Pol Maj Gen Kornchai Klayklueng.
Pol Maj Gen Kornchai yesterday was asked to comment on an investigation into the suspected sex abuser who is believed to be working as a teacher in Thailand after his story recently went viral on social media.
Jackson Matthew Hall, 26, from Alabama, was indicted in 2014 for first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy of his ex-girlfriend's then 5-year-old daughter, according to the state's local newspaper, the Cullman Times.
Mr Hall is believed by Thai authorities to be living in Thailand working as a teacher, under the false name of Tyler Smith.
He came to the attention of local authorities when a 29-year-old Thai woman believed to be dating him went missing in early March, according to a report by ThaiVisa News.
Nittaya Polsripim, or "Neung", is an agent who finds jobs for foreigners in Thailand.
According to the ThaiVisa report, Mr Hall initially met Ms Nittaya to find a teaching job in Rayong.
According to another report about the case by the Buriram Times, Ms Nittaya's family feared that she did not know about her boyfriend's sexual assault charges.
Her ex-husband, however, has said she may be helping Mr Hall avoid police, in fear of him getting arrested for using a fake passport and overstaying.
