Child, 7, dies with coronavirus as South West hospital deaths continue to mount

A seven-year-old child has died after contracting coronavirus, the latest figures show.

The Department of Health's data reveals a further 630 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported fatalities in English hospitals to 74,249.

Our region once again confirmed the lowest death toll, with 32 fatalities. The Midland's recorded the highest, with 133.

Patients were aged between 7 and 102 years old. All except 30 (aged 40 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Dates of the deaths ranged from 4 January to 3 February 2021, with the majority being on or after 29 January.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 85
  • London - 91
  • Midlands - 133
  • North East & Yorkshire - 74
  • North West - 123
  • South East – 92
  • South West - 32

Cases have been falling across Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset, however, deaths remain high in every county.

A further 19 people died across Bristol and its neighbouring areas, in all settings, Wednesday's figures showed.

Meanwhile, six more people died in Gloucestershire, and 23 in Somerset.
