Child, 5, bitten in head by dog as pet taken to be destroyed

A five-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after being bitten in the head by a dog.

Emergency services were called to Kirkby on Wednesday night following reports of a dog attack.

On arrival they the child with head and arm injuries.

The dog - which is not a banned breed - has been removed from its owner "for destruction".

Police flooded Digmoor Walk after being called to the incident just before 9pm.

Images from the street show the emergency service response, with police vans and cars among the vehicles in attendance.

Plain-clothed officers were also reportedly at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "We were called at 8.55pm last night, Wednesday 8th April, to a house in Digmoor Walk in Kirkby to reports a five year-old boy have been bitten by a dog.

"The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for an injury to his head an arm.

"He remains in hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"Officers attended at the scene and spoke to the owner of the dog, which was not a banned breed.

"The dog has been signed over for destruction."
