A 43-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a four-year-old girl at Cannon Hill in Brisbane's east.
The man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Emergency services had been called to a Bent Street property in the suburb at approximately 9:20am on Monday.
There they set up a crime scene and forensic officers and detectives began to investigate.
Detectives doorknocked nearby houses and spoke to neighbours during the day.
Trent O'Brien was working at a house down the road when he heard cars coming up the street.
"I looked down and saw cop cars and a few ambos," Mr O'Brien said.
"I honestly thought something happened at the school."
Police are continuing to investigate and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
