Child, 14, taken to hospital after being knocked over by a van in Sunderland

A teenager has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a collision in Sunderland.

Emergency crews attended the scene on the A183 on between Herrington Country Park and the A19 in Penshaw just after 4pm today (May 18). A 14-year-old teenager was found to have been injured after being knocked over by a van.

The A183 in Penshaw was closed by Northumbria Police in both directions between Herrington Country Park and the A19. The closure caused some disruption on the nearby roads with slow traffic reported in the vicinity.
