An 11-year-old girl has been seriously hurt after being run over outside school at the end of term.
Paramedics treated the youngster at the scene before rushing her to Watford General Hospital after she suffered a 'serious' head injury in the crash.
The injured child was hit outside Nash Mills C of E Primary School in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, at around 8.50am this morning and is said to be in a 'stable' condition in hospital.
The driver remained outside the school and is working with officers, with no-one currently under arrest, HertsLive reports.
A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Belswains Lane at around 8.50am today following reports of a collision.
"Crews treated a girl at the scene before transporting her to Watford General Hospital for further assessment and care."
Police said officers raced to the scene after receiving reports about a crash involving a child and a red Alfa Romeo Giulia.
A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesman added: "Officers and the East of England Ambulance Service were called to a location outside Nash Mills Church of England Primary School on Belswains Lane at around 8.50am following reports of a collision between a child and a red Alfa Romeo Giulia.
"An 11 year old child was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering a head injury and is being treated as serious, but stable in hospital.
"The driver remained at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries.
"No arrests have been made."
Acting Detective Sergeant David Burstow, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit, added: “As part of our investigation into this incident I’m keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have useful dashcam footage.
"I’d also like to speak to anybody who witnessed this incident and has not yet come forward to the police.
“This was a busy time of the morning with parents in the area on the school run, so please get in touch if you can assist.
